The true story of the powerful journey of one family's love, perseverance, and the conquering of fear. Surviving a crisis, only to endure category 5 Hurricanes "Irma" and "Maria," Allie and her family, along with their sailboat, traveled 50 miles through the storm-fueled waters near Salinas, Puerto Rico, to reach safety. From their starting point deeply entangled in the mangroves, the boat is tied up tighter than a woman’s corset. The family leaped into a last-minute midnight survival plan that entailed riding in a 9-foot dinghy, through the open sea, all with a GPS that could scarcely catch a signal and without any opportunity to say goodbye to those they love. You will experience the terrifying, sinking ride in pre-hurricane wind conditions for yourself. During hours of Hurricane Maria, the water level is three feet high inside Allie’s ground-level hotel room; the door is blocked by four kayaks that have floated in front her only exit. She frantically holds on to a piece of sanity by recording her harrowing experiences from a temporary shelter, all while awaiting the safe return of her husband. This gripping story captures the raw, detailed emotions felt by Allie and other survivors during and after the devastation of Maria. There are valuable lessons for others to draw upon.
